Let's Talk: AI and Our Choices

  • FivePine – South Sister Room 1021 East Desperado Trail Sisters, OR, 97759 United States (map)

How is AI impacting life in rural communities like Sisters?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping how we work, learn, communicate, and make decisions – both as individuals and a community. The pace of innovation is so fast that it’s easy to feel confused, defeated, and out of control. But there ARE ways that we can have agency and work together to influence how AI impacts Sisters Country.

In partnership with Happy Brain Science and with support from OpenAI’s People First AI Fund, Citizens4Community (C4C) is excited to host “Let’s Talk: AI and Our Choices.”

This 90-minute gathering will provide space to slow down, build a shared understanding of AI’s risks and opportunities, and talk together about what the technology means for our daily lives and shared future.

Let’s Talk: AI and Our Choices will be facilitated by Scott Crabtree, Chief Happiness Officer at Happy Brain Science.

Facilitated by Scott Crabtree, Chief Happiness Officer at Happy Brain Science, the event is designed to be accessible to community members of all personal and professional backgrounds. No technical expertise or prior knowledge of AI is required to participate. This session is appropriate for ages 13 and older.

We’ll begin with a high-level presentation that explores:

  • What AI looks like today, and where it may be headed;

  • Examples of how AI is impacting various aspects of community life, for better or worse – including education, work, relationships, the environment, and trust in information;

  • How many of AI’s biggest risks and opportunities still depend on the choices we humans make, individually and collectively.

Through breakout sessions, participants will then discuss their concerns, hopes, and questions about AI, and share ways that the technology is already impacting their lives. We’ll reconvene to share our learnings, brainstorm easy interventions, and plot a path for future community education.

A core goal of this event is to build a sense of agency – helping people feel more informed, less overwhelmed, and better equipped to engage thoughtfully with a rapidly changing technology landscape.

Group learnings will help guide a year-long C4C-led series exploring AI and community life. What participants share will directly shape future topics and events.
