Help your organization and community understand the realities of living in a fire-dependent ecosystem.
Join C4C for Essential Wildland Fire Knowledge – a free workshop providing a science-backed introduction to fire and risk reduction in the high desert. Led by local Wildland Fire Education Coordinator Emily Curtis, this session will empower you with the knowledge, tools, and resources to help your organization, neighborhood, or community become better prepared for future wildfires and smoke events.
At this workshop, participants will:
Gain knowledge about wildfire science and risk reduction, smoke health and safety, and forest restoration work.
Learn about tools and resources to help you make informed decisions during wildfires, evacuations, and smoke episodes.
Be prepared to educate clients, customers, visitors, stakeholders and community members about the realities of living in a fire-dependent ecosystem.
Ask questions and learn from specialists in the fields of fire management and public health.
Whether you’re a nonprofit leader looking to better support local resilience planning, or coordinator for neighborhood preparedness efforts, or just a curious community member wary about the risks of wildfire in Central Oregon, this workshop is for you!
This event will take place at The Hub – C4C’s new community workspace in downtown Sisters. Come for light refreshments and networking from 4:30-5 PM, followed by the workshop from 5-6:30. We’ll leave plenty of time for Q&A, too.
The workshop is free, but space is limited. Register today!
About Emily Curtis
Emily is the Wildland Fire Education Coordinator at Discover Your Forest – a nonprofit dedicated to promoting the discovery of the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests and Crooked River National Grassland by enriching the experience of visitors, building community support, and creating the next generation of environmental stewards.
Emily coordinates public outreach and education programs on fire science associated with forest restoration and wildland fire risk reduction on the Deschutes National Forest. She’s keenly interested in natural and social systems and their relationships to communities.
Having previously worked for state and federal forestry agencies, Emily brings her forest management, community engagement, and partner collaboration skills to this program. She's known to "crave the flame," and supports the Forest Service during prescribed burns and wildfire incidents as a public information officer (PIO). When she’s not out adventuring by foot, ski, or paddleboard on public lands, you can typically find Emily curled up with a good book and her kitties.
