Let's Learn: A Personal Toolbox for Building a Stronger Community

So you want to make a difference in your community. What skills are most important?

Steve recently led the facilitation of the inaugural Sisters Civic Leadership Academy.

C4C is excited to host expert facilitator Steve Greenwood for a free workshop exploring the personal side of community building.

Join us on Thursday, June 27th at 4 pm in the Sisters Library Community Room for “Let’s Learn: A Personal Toolbox for Building a Stronger Community.” The workshop is free, but attendance is limited to 25 people (register here or below).

Steve recently served as lead facilitator for the inaugural Sisters Civic Leadership Academy, and has now generously offered to share his expertise in leadership and collaboration with the broader Sisters community.

In this 90-minute workshop, we’ll:

  • Explore what makes some communities stronger than others.

  • Learn about critical community leadership skills like active listening, collaboration, and consensus building

  • Discuss how both introverts and extroverts are critical to a thriving community

  • Examine both the art and science of community building

Participants will come away feeling more empowered to make a difference in their community. Light refreshments will be provided. A caregiver reimbursement stipend, interpretation services, and ride share assistance are available upon request (learn more below).

About Steve Greenwood

Steve is a Senior Fellow at Portland State University’s National Policy Consensus Center. NPCC advances the use of collaborative governance methods in Oregon and nationally through innovative services, education, and research that help people collaborate to address public policy disputes and implement community-based solutions.

Steve has over 35 years of public service experience at the federal, state, and local level – most recently as Regional Administrator for the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. He previously served as Board President of the Oregon Environmental Council. He has led collaborative processes on a wide range of issues, including Oregon’s urban-rural divide, water conflicts in eastern Oregon, and Columbia River sediment management. He teaches collaborative governance to PSU graduate students and at conferences and seminars internationally.

Steve has a master’s degree in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and received a Fulbright fellowship to advise Portugal on solid waste policy in 1991. He received the 2007 Outstanding Alumnus Award from the University of Oregon’s Planning, Public Policy, and Management program.

  • How much: All C4C events are free to attendees, but they do cost money to plan and host. Donations are greatly appreciated and will be accepted at the door or online.

    • A caregiver reimbursement stipend is available for parents and caregivers in attendance.
