What does “free speech” really mean in today’s America?
Who dictates the terms? Where are the guardrails? And how do we as a community uphold this constitutional right while striving for civility and connectedness?
Join Citizens4Community (C4C) for a community conversation digging into these hard questions and more. Moderated by Executive Director Kellen Klein, we'll sit down with two local figures who work at the heart of public discourse:
Jim Cornelius — Editor-in-Chief of The Nugget Newspaper
Lane Jacobson — Owner of Paulina Springs Books
Together, we'll dig into some local free speech case studies, and reflect on the broader challenges of fostering a healthy "marketplace of ideas" in our community and country. Audience members will also be invited to join the discussion, bringing their own questions and perspectives to this important, timely topic.
Whether you're a constitutional law expert or a community member concerned about the state of Facebook comment threads, this session is for you. Come with an open mind and you're sure to leave with new ideas about how we all can better engage across differences.
You can attend this event in-person at Sisters Firehouse Community Hall, or live-stream it on Zoom. Additional accessibility services include a caregiver reimbursement stipend, ride share support, and interpretation by request (more details below).
