What do you get when you cross poetry, a DJ, house music, and Sisters’ newest coffee shop? Poetry karaoke!
Join us on February 6th for a whole new type of creative expression and community building. Co-sponsored by Deschutes Public Library and Paulina Springs Books, and hosted by The Slow Down State coffee shop, Let’s Flow invites you to step up to the mic and share words that move you – whether they’re yours or someone else’s. This free event is for individuals 16 and older only.
But what is “Poetry Karaoke??”
Think of it like karaoke, but instead of belting out songs, you’re reading poems – beloved classics, contemporary favorites, or your own original work. You’ll be backed by a DJ spinning slick house beats, adding a fun, rhythmic vibe to each performance.
No experience is needed – just bring your curiosity and a willingness to listen and cheer others on. You’re welcome to come prepared with a poem in hand, discover something new from library and bookstore selections on site, or simply relax with a warm drink prepared by The Slow Down State’s expert baristas. You can even recite your favorite song lyrics in poetry form! Bonus points (and maybe some free swag) for works aligned with Deschutes Public Library’s February events theme – “Waves.”
