In honor of America’s 250th birthday, we invite you to join us – and communities across the country – for a public reading of the Declaration of Independence.
On July 8th, C4C is honored to take part in “Sharing the Spirit of America” – a nationwide public reading of the Declaration of Independence. Initiated and sponsored by the Hawai‘i America250 Commission, the event is scheduled to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence’s first-ever public reading on July 8th, 1776 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
At 3 PM Pacific Time, Americans in all fifty States, five territories, the District of Columbia, Minor Outlying Islands, and seven continents (including Antarctica!) will read the Declaration simultaneously. Sisters will be one of hundreds of locations “from sea to shining sea” participating in this celebratory affair.
The American spirit, principles, and values memorialized in the Declaration of Independence 250 years ago are valid today, as are the personal and collective responsibilities we share in protecting and perpetuating these values. “Sharing the Spirit of America” provides Americans the opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past; celebrate our rich history and shared values; and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond.
Local elected officials, community leaders, youth, veterans, and other residents of Sisters Country will join together in Fir Street Park for a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Afterward, we invite you to stick around for another time-honored American tradition – free ice cream!
This event is free and open to the public. We welcome community members of all ages, backgrounds, cultures, races, faiths, and lived experiences to join us – and people around the world – for this special celebration.
