On Sunday, May 5, 2024, Citizens4Community (C4C) and The Nugget Newspaper hosted our bi-annual Community Forum at the Sisters Firehouse Community Hall. Over 160 people joined in-person and online to hear local leaders discuss a timely and important question confronting Sisters Country – Who Gets to Live Here?
Panelists and community members discussed the state of local housing affordability and availability, how we got here, barriers and opportunities to make our community more livable for all, and more. Sincere thanks to the community for their thoughtful engagement, and to the planning team, panelists, and our main sponsor St. Charles Health System for their help organizing this important community discussion.
A recording of the Community Forum is now available below and on C4C’s YouTube channel.
We recognize that our local housing challenges can’t be solved in one discussion, and we’re eager to help community members remain engaged and informed on this important issue. To that end, we have also produced a “supplemental packet” to help guide further action and learning. The packet includes:
Local housing facts and figures
A list of local housing assistance services, affordable housing developers, and related organizations
Recommendations for ways to get engaged and take action around this issue
Research, reports, toolkits, and other resources related to local housing conditions and growth
Relevant books, articles, podcasts, and videos curated to provoke thought and learning
A glossary of housing terms
You can also access this Resource packet by visiting bit.ly/C4C-housing-resources.
Do you have additional recommended resources or other ideas? We welcome feedback on ways we and other organizations can help Sisters Country continue to discuss and address local housing affordability and availability. Email us at hello@citizens4community.com.
