AI And...Creativity

  • The Hub, by Citizens4Community 291 E Main Ave Sisters, OR, 97759 United States (map)

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how we work, play, learn, communicate, and make sense of the world around us. What do those changes mean for a community like Sisters?

To explore this question more deeply, Citizens4Community (C4C) has launched a new 4-part conversation series.

“AI And...” explores how AI is shaping various aspects of everyday life, with a particular focus on the opportunities, challenges, impacts, and questions emerging at the local level. Each conversation will bring together experts and community members to examine a different dimension of AI and consider what these changes could mean for Sisters Country.

Our series concludes on Monday, December 7th with AI And...Creativity.

Hosted at The Hub, and also available via livestream on our YouTube channel, this free “fireside chat” will feature two local experts exploring how AI is affecting the lives of artists, the act of creating, and the evolving ethics of the creative economy.

Through conversation with these speakers and attendees, we’ll explore questions like:

  • How is AI changing the creative process for writers, designers, and other artists? Where might it enhance human creativity, and where might it diminish it?

  • What is the value of human-generated art in a world where AI can create compelling works in mere seconds? Does eliminating “friction” and “struggle” from the artistic experience inherently alter what it means to be an artist?

  • How is AI impacting the creative industry and its professionals? What opportunities and threats does it present, particularly for independent creators in small communities?

  • The models enabling AI-driven creative expression are often trained on existing works, sometimes without the artists’ consent. Where is the ethical line between inspiration and exploitation?

  • Sisters has a strong creative identity. How might AI alter our local creative landscape in years to come, and what can we do to ensure that human creativity – and creators – continue to thrive in our community?

Featuring multidisciplinary artist, motion designer, and creative technologist Heather Crank and local author and former AI executive Ken Sansom, the conversation will explore the AI-driven opportunities, challenges, and ethical questions arising for artists and the communities like Sisters that depend on them.

AI And... is a series designed for curious community members, not technology experts. No prior knowledge of AI is needed, just an interest in understanding how a rapidly evolving technology may affect our lives and our community. Come early for complimentary refreshments and a chance to peruse our “AI Primer” resources!

Attendance is free, but registration is required.
