A newly developed, four-part Zoom-based learning series, “What does it mean to be white in America?” is set to start Oct. 29.
The series was developed by facilitators of C4C’s July Let’s Talk! That event focused on how folks in Sisters and Central Oregon were experiencing current racial unrest; and it featured guests who described what it is like to be a person of color, living and working in Central Oregon. Several participants expressed an interest in continuing that local conversation and learning more about race relations.
The series, which will run for four consecutive Thursday evenings, has been designed in alignment with “Connected Sisters” Strategy 4 of the Sisters Country Vision. C4C has been designated by the community as a lead organization for implementing Connected Strategy 4, which focuses on Diversity & Inclusion and creating an ever more welcoming Sisters Country.
The interactive series will run 6-8 p.m. Oct. 29, Nov. 5, Nov. 12 and Nov. 19. It will be led by a team with a background in teaching and leading groups and a desire to explore topics, in community, related to racism, equity and white privilege.
Objectives for the series include:
—Reflecting and sharing in a safe space on what it means to be white
—Identifying individual and collective steps that can help Sisters be more inclusive and welcoming to all; and
—Learning some basic strategies to work toward equity in your sphere of influence
“Together we hope this will be a time for all of us to learn more about what it means to be white in America, and especially Central Oregon, so we can work toward building a more inclusive community,” — organizer Kirstin Anglea.
The series is free, but seats are limited; so you are encouraged to <<REGISTER BY CLICKING HERE>> as soon as possible.
