Let's Talk...About Local Media in Small Communities
- Sisters Library 110 N Cedar St Sisters, OR 97759 United States (map)
Citizens4Community invites you to participate in our monthly "Let's Talk" discussion series. In July we'll be looking at the topic of the importance of local media in small town communities. Nugget Newspaper editor and manager Jim Cornelius has offered to serve as a guest to provide helpful information for an informed discussion. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. July 15 in the Community Room of the Sisters Library (entrance on south side of building).
(Let's Talk meets locally on the 3rd Monday of each month. To learn more about the Let's Talk series, how it started and past discussion topics, see C4C’s NEWS pages.
Newspapers across the country are struggling financially as people seek their news through social media. Some people have stopped reading newspapers altogether, believing that the news is filled with drama to create interest, and that the facts are no longer the priority for reporting. However, newspapers in small and rural communities continue to thrive in some locations. Why is that? What is the role of the media in small communities? Can they fuel incivility? Can they build community?
Let's Talk discussions provide a moderated forum for people to share their views and opinions. Participants recommend the topics for discussion.
The events are free, but registration is required. Seats are available on a first-come basis. Please sign up soon to reserve your place at the discussion table.
To save your seat for the July 15 discussion, contact Citizens4Community board member Lane Jacobson at: lane@paulinaspringsbooks.com. Make sure you share with Lane in the subject and body of your email: “Please Save Me a Seat at the Next Let’s Talk.”
