A mysterious virus arrives, suddenly and thoroughly upsetting social norms and everyday living. …
Federal, state and local governments order social-distancing. Schools, churches, public spaces and businesses are closed. Many lose their jobs and security. Meanwhile, others face grueling work hours. Amid these struggles, a man is tragically killed in a confrontation with police and a wave of demonstrations ensues.
As we’ve braced for the unknowns of Covid and witnessed peaceful protests sometimes turning violent, the world as we know it has seemingly turned far more stressful in just a few months. Not surprisingly, people are encountering fear, anxiety and depression.
Join C4C in June for a thoughtful and engaging Let’s Talk! discussion about the mental and emotional impacts of living through difficult times.
The gathering is set for 6:30 to 8 p.m. on our regular third Monday of the month—June 15—via Zoom.
Mitchell Luftig, Ph.D., will serve as moderator for the session. Mitchell is a psychologist and author who has written several articles in response to Covid-19 for Sisters’ Nugget Newspaper. Read his latest Nugget articles HERE>, HERE>, HERE> and HERE>.
Special guests are set to include:
• Audry Van Houweling, PMHNP-BC. Audry owns She Soars Psychiatry in Sisters.
• Zenia Kuzma, LCSW, Zenia is a licensed clinical social worker and trauma debriefing expert.
• Wil Berry, M.D., Wil is the medical director for the Deschutes County Behavioral Health department.
• Whitney Schumacher, MPH, Whitney is the Suicide Prevention Coordinator for Deschutes County.
Guests will field questions and discuss topics including:
—strategies for keeping calm and well during uncertain times
—healthy ways to grieve the loss of “normality” during an unusual time, and
—ways we can assist others in need of emotional and mental support.
